Verbier Festival 2016
Cultural Delights with the Verbier Festival this Summer
The hills are alive with the sound of music, as they say. Okay that was rather cliché of us but in the idyllic Swiss Alps the well renowned Verbier Festival is far from it. Verbier takes pride in its international music festival focused on (but not limited to) the classical genres. But like everything in Verbier this is not just your average music festival with a few concerts scattered around the mountain village but an all-encompassing multi-faceted celebration of music aimed at developing young talent, showcasing exceptional artists of the future in edition to watching world class professionals performing at their very best.
From the 22 July to 7 August 2016 Verbier will be immersed in world-class musical performances by the world’s best classical musicians and young talent. With over 20 years to its name the most unique feature of the Verbier festival is it’s nurture of young talent and hopeful musicians through seminars and education programmes. These master classes and opportunity to get up close and personal with festival artists offers an experience well cultured and all-encompassing experience not to be missed.
Don’t be fooled into thinking this is purely a classical music festival, in addition to the jam packed concert schedules taking place in the impromptu music halls of the Salle des Combins and Verbier church there are also a daily Jazz and ‘World music’ concerts to indulge in as part of the Fest’Off. The remote nature of Verbier means that a variety of exotic international music blends are drawn together into one cooking pot creating a tasty treat for music appreciators and composers alike.
Attracted by the quality of music and ability to exchange ideas the festival has a reputation for excellence in classical music. We at Verbier Chalets cannot think of a more pleasurable experience than savouring a beautifully crafted piece of music whilst absorbing the glorious mountain sunshine and fresh alpine air with the most stunning mountain scenery as your backdrop.
Verbier Festival 2016 highlights include an extravagant opening night with Violin maestro Kyung Wha Chung performing with Charles Dutoit. Monsieur Dutoit stays in verbier to reveal his rendition of the French opera of Bizet’s Carmen. Accompanied by the amazingly talented Kate Aldrich performing as the bewitching cigarette girl. For the pianist lovers amongst you András Schiff tribute to Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto as both solo pianist and conductor of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, is not to be missed.
